Summary

The new book from astronaut Tim Peake, the number one bestselling author of Hello, is this planet Earth

How does it feel to orbit the earth ten times faster than a speeding bullet?
What’s it like to eat, sleep and go to the toilet in space?
And where to next – the Moon, Mars or beyond?

Ask an Astronaut is Tim’s personal guide to life in space, based on his historic Principia mission, and the thousands of questions he has been asked since his return to Earth。

Accessible, in-depth, and written with his characteristic warmth, Tim shares his thoughts on every aspect of his mission。 From training to launch, from his historic spacewalk to re-entry, he reveals for readers of all ages the cutting-edge science behind his ground-breaking experiments, and the wonders of day-to-day life on board the International Space Station。

The public were invited to submit questions using the hashtag #askanastronaut, and a selection are answered by Tim in the book, which will be accompanied with illustrations, diagrams and never-before-seen photos。

Tim is pleased to announce that, as with his previous book, royalties received from the book will be donated to The Prince’s Trust。

Reflections and lessons learned:“By strapping into a rock you are voluntarily rolling the dice and there’s a chance that you may not be coming home”I’m not born of that era, nor am I scientific (I’m such a political cynic that I’m not even sure whether we did make it to the moon considering the evidence… why wouldn’t we have been back?!?) but I love an adventure, and going literally out of this world is surely the most adventurous future plans game changer that we have at the moment? I’ve been lucky enough to see a presentation, and even spoke with an astronaut but still appreciated this book for the wonderful inviting and inclusive answering of all the questions that must feel so basic compared to what Peake has achieved。 It sometimes too easy to downplay the UKs involvement in the space race (yes, I too have paid to see Helen Sharmans toothbrush) but this really was a spectacular opportunity to be a part of the history and the future on the international space station, and covers so many elements that makes the mystery fun - dark dark days, wonderful scenery, cups of tea in zero gravity made with questionable liquids。 Great choice in Ince for narrator too - can’t wait to fuel the kids dreams by leaving them to listen to this before bed…“I smiled… it had been a truly epic adventure…” 。。。more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I liked the question/answer format and organization。 This is the third book I've read by Peake, and he does not disappoint。The best thing about this book was how simple he made things sound and the illustrations he used。 I have read several astronauts' books, but this one helped me to really understand launches and landings, orbits, and more。 I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Peake stay true to the books title as he spends the whole book answering some of the many questions he has gotten from people about what life before, during, and after space flight is like。

Jestem w szoku jak ta książka była dobra。 Nie jestem fanką astronomii/ fizyki, a jednak tak mnie zaciekawiła ta pozycja, że nie mogłam się oderwać od czytania。 Wielkie, wielkie wow

Few of the best non-fiction books I read this year。 The authors writes in a very frank and honest way so that the book is really easy to ready for everyone, irrespective of age。 I got to know a lot, if I would have read this book before, maybe I would try to become an astronaut。A great read about life in space and ISS。 Must read!

“Q: What’s the best advice you’ve received?–Alex Gellersen A: A teacher of mine used to say, ‘Life is like a dustbin–you get out what you put in。’ This may seem like rather harsh advice to give a teenager, but it has served me well over the years and still does。 I never expect anything to come my way without hard work, patience and determination。”

WowLearn like a bunch from This book。 Both from the answers and even from the question itself。 How can you think of these questions! WOW。 It's super fun to read。 Tim's positive vibe is one of the best thing to learn from also。 WowLearn like a bunch from This book。 Both from the answers and even from the question itself。 How can you think of these questions! Solid book to Have Around。 Very interesting and thorough, makes you realise the extent to which space people literally think about EVERYTHING。 Lots of nuts, read-aloud-to-the-room-after-reading facts about how fast things move sometimes。 The Q&A format gets a little draining into the second half, with Tim straight up repeating himself multiple times。 What's the most Uhh about this book is just how eerily British Tim Peake is。 It's like he's a genetically engineered Upstanding Briton。 He has two Solid book to Have Around。 Very interesting and thorough, makes you realise the extent to which space people literally think about EVERYTHING。 Lots of nuts, read-aloud-to-the-room-after-reading facts about how fast things move sometimes。 The Q&A format gets a little draining into the second half, with Tim straight up repeating himself multiple times。 What's the most Uhh about this book is just how eerily British Tim Peake is。 It's like he's a genetically engineered Upstanding Briton。 He has two kids。 Loves Coldplay。 Loves the Queen。 Eats bacon sarnies in space。 He's run the London marathon。 He's Mr Some Guy。 The One Show incarnate。 It's actually low key unsettling lmao 。。。more

Enamoured as I am of the ISS, I decided to buy some books written by astronauts。 As a matter of fact, Santa was kind to me last Christmas and gifted me with two more。 Ask an Astronaut by Tim Peake is the first non-fiction book I read in a while and if you like space like I do you certainly don’t want to miss this one。 It’s structured as an ongoing interview where Major Peake replies to the most common doubts people have about space, microgravity, training, and so much more。Many of us have always Enamoured as I am of the ISS, I decided to buy some books written by astronauts。 As a matter of fact, Santa was kind to me last Christmas and gifted me with two more。 Ask an Astronaut by Tim Peake is the first non-fiction book I read in a while and if you like space like I do you certainly don’t want to miss this one。 It’s structured as an ongoing interview where Major Peake replies to the most common doubts people have about space, microgravity, training, and so much more。Many of us have always dreamt to travel to space and he claims that everybody could do it, but it takes dedication and despite that one has to be lucky to be chosen for a space program。 Perhaps, in a far future, it’ll be easier, especially with the number of missions increasing in time—the lunar base, Mars exploration and who knows what else? As better technology become available, new discoveries may take mankind further and further into space。 After all, when the Wright brothers invented, built, and flew the first motors-operate airplane at the beginning of the twentieth century, no one believed we would go to the moon。 But we did, and for years we have been having people constantly living in space。 The limits are in our minds。 。。。more

This is a fun Q&A book about life as an astronaut designed to appeal to both older children and adults。 Tim has an infectious enthusiasm for his topic and answers some complex questions thoroughly but succinctly。

Dan Carpenter

The format of this book is based around the author answering questions people have asked about his experience travelling to, living on, and returning from the ISS。 A bit rudimentary at times and so I would recommend to someone new to the subject (kids or teenagers, for example) but less so to someone who is already a bit more familiar with the lives of astronauts。

An enchanting read。 I loved it so much I read it over 2 nights。 The q&a style really fits this book well and Peake doesn't shy away from giving the details。 The language isn't heavy so it was an extremely enjoyable read。 An enchanting read。 I loved it so much I read it over 2 nights。 The q&a style really fits this book well and Peake doesn't shy away from giving the details。 The language isn't heavy so it was an extremely enjoyable read。 。。。more

Absolutely loved the read! The book is a series of Q&A and a lot of infographics and pictures about travelling to/from and living on the ISS。 Vast majority of topics is related to common things but the answers were really interesting and fun。 Therefore I sincerely recommend this book to anyone who ever thought about "what is it like to be an astronaut"。 Absolutely loved the read! A very readable account of life to, on, and back from the ISS。 Peake isn't quite as eloquent as Mike Collins, for example, in his writing about space travel, but he makes up for it by endearingly understating everything。 Sitting on top of a Soyuz rocket on launch day is only "almost visceral"。 A very readable account of life to, on, and back from the ISS。 Peake isn't quite as eloquent as Mike Collins, for example, in his writing about space travel, but he makes up for it by endearingly understating everything。 Sitting on top of a Soyuz rocket on launch day is only "almost visceral"。 。。。more
